There is more than ounce of truth in the old saying that “Health is Wealth”. Sadly in this age of advancement, we are certainly forgetting this age old wisdom. The result is that, though the average life expectancy has increased dramatically in developed nations like ours, yet so has our dependence on medicine and medical care. We have forgotten to live simply to enjoy life in a more healthy way. Hence it is no wonder that though diseases that once claimed millions, like plague, has been stopped, yet other diseases related to unhealthy lifestyle has cropped up.

One of the main reasons for many diseases that plague men, women and even children is that we lead a very sedentary life. Yes, you may be rushing from home to work and then back to home, but with much ease and less exercise. We drive to even to walk able distances, take the lift to reach first floor and our children enjoy playing games in computer more that romping in the park! Add to it the unhealthy eating habits that have become the bane of this country. Fatty foods and sugar saturated drinks have replaced home cooked food and simple drinks in many household. The result is that obesity and its related complications kill more people today in this country than any disease can!

The only way to fight diseases like these is to eat healthy. Eating healthy does not mean that you live on “rabbit food”; it means that you balance your diet in an effective way. If you have already contacted problems like blood sugar, high blood pressure or obesity, you can alter your eating habits to fit your problem. Following are some of the food items that you must have in your diet if you want to fight these problems:

· Green vegetables like spinach, broccoli, and cabbage.

· Fruits like apples, banana, water melon grapes, and oranges.

· Lean cuts of red meat (in moderation).

· Fish and other sea food.

· Chicken and other white meats.

· Tofu and other soybean products like soymilk.

· Beans like kidney beans, haricot and other legumes.

· Whole wheat, brown rice or wild rice.
