Is Plastic Surgery the Only Answer?
By jamiesweeney
If you have any flaw on your skin, and you feel like you’ve tried everything under the sun to correct the flaw, you might think that plastic surgery is the only answer to the skin that you desire. For some, that is true, and for others, depending on the problem, it isn’t true at all. However, before you decide on plastic surgery, there are some things that you should be aware of.
The first concern of plastic surgery, or cosmetic surgery, is bleeding. Of course, if you have surgery, there will be blood, but often the blood clots directly under the skin, causing hematoma. This causes the skin to feel hard and lumpy where the hematoma occurs. The skin may even be discolored, and there will be little that you can do about this. The color isn’t the only problem associated with a hematoma, of course. There is also the fact that the hematoma grows, and can actually restrict blood flow and oxygen. The area can also go numb, and become inflamed.
Don’t be fooled into believing that there won’t be any scarring after plastic surgery. It is true that scars can be hidden, and they do fade over a long period of time, but they never really go away. Necrosis is another issue. Necrosis is essentially the death of tissue. This happens due to a lack of oxygen to the area. This happens more often than average people realize after breast surgeries, tummy tucks, and face lifts, and the chances of developing Necrosis increase if you are a smoker.
Nerve damage is another issue that you need to be aware of. You’ve probably seen the Joan Rivers commercial, where she can’t smile, or can’t stop smiling because of excess plastic surgery. While the commercial itself is very funny, the reality for someone who experiences this isn’t funny at all. Nerve damage can occur, and will result in tingling, numbness, or the inability to fully control muscles under the skin.
While all of these problems are skin or appearance related, there is another issue that is much more serious. Many people do not have good reactions to the anesthesia that is used. Every surgery carries some level of risk from the anesthesia. Often, in the case of cosmetic surgery, the surgery occurs in the doctor’s office, instead of the hospital, and the doctor’s office is not equipped to deal with an emergency resulting from problems with anesthesia.
Before you consider plastic surgery, or cosmetic surgery which is the same thing, make sure that you consider all of the possible risks as well, and check into all available alternatives.
