The Most Common Causes of Wrinkles and Aging Skin
By jamiesweeney
Everyone fights wrinkles as they age. Most of us believe that there is nothing that we can do about those fine lines and wrinkles, and we all just naturally assume that they come with age. This isn’t exactly true. First, there is something that you can do about those lines and wrinkles – and while they are a part of the aging process, there are things that we actually do in our lives that speed up the wrinkling process.
The first way to avoid wrinkles and lines is to start paying close attention to your skin before they appear. If you did not do this, it isn’t too late to start. For example, not cleaning your skin well and using moisturizer can cause you to wrinkle rather early. Skin that isn’t ultra clean and well moisturized can also make existing lines and wrinkles stand out even more. Cleansers and moisturizers can be pricy, but if the appearance of your skin matters to you a great deal, the cost is well worth it, and you will happily cut expenses elsewhere to be able to afford those products.
You’ve heard of laugh lines – and you probably have them. Facial expressions that are repeated often can cause wrinkles to appear where the skin is stretched and held in place often. This is why instead of squinting your eyes, you would be better off getting glasses or contact lenses. Are you worried that eye glasses will make you appear to be aging? Lots of younger people wear glasses, and glasses are not a sign of aging, per se. However, crows feet around the edges of the eyes – caused by squinting – are a definite sign of old age.
Many of us love the sun, and it is important for the production of vitamins and hormones within the body, such as Vitamin D and Serotonin. Unfortunately, the sunshine can also age our skin very quickly, and can even cause skin cancers. Is that tan really worth all of this? A killer tan could eventually become a tan that really kills you.
Finally, there are the unhealthy habits that we expose ourselves to – or that others expose us to – such as smoking cigarettes. Do not smoke, and try to avoid second hand smoke as well. Not only is this bad for the skin, it’s also the leading cause of cancer. Additionally, those who live in cleaner air tend to have younger looking skin than those who live in polluted areas.
